“The manager role that I have is quite different from most other roles, so my day looks different too.

My agenda is often filled with meetings because, although there is not a meeting culture in IMC, I need to discuss a wide range of topics with people from various departments.

But we try to keep meetings short and efficient. Even in meetings you can tell IMC is all about speed and reaching goals.

Wide experience

I started as a bond analyst with Mees Pierson, but soon picked up option trading. I traded options on bonds for a year and then moved into financial stocks and indices option trading. After Mees Pierson was bought by Fortis I was a trader in structured products. I joined a small bank for two years, heading the treasury department, then moved to IMC in 2005.

Relating to people

I joined the global management team of IMC in 2006. IMC attracted me as a relatively small and dynamic company that is highly motivated and ambitious with lots of opportunities to grow, both as a company and personally.

I like to think with this all this varied experience I can relate to most people and their roles. And I try to speak to everyone as often as possible, helping out on any challenges that come up each day, making sure spirits are high, and taking decisions where necessary.

Setting up Hong Kong

In late 2007 I moved to Hong Kong as Managing Director of our new office there. In February 2009 I came back to Amsterdam to take the same role in Amsterdam.

A succesful day for me is hearing that decisions turned out to be right, and that operations are running smoothly. It’s always nice to see that the list of tasks to follow up on is shorter than it was at the start of the day, but to realize with a smile that there will be a nice list of challenges coming up tomorrow.

The future

It will be interesting to see how IMC evolves in the next couple of years. My hope and expectation is that we can further grow into a leading financial trading house globally. No doubt some new strategies that I have not even thought about will be the new profit makers by then.
