Culture
Innovation and dedication
IMC started in 1989 as a trading firm on the floor of the European Options Exchange in Amsterdam, the oldest derivatives exchange outside the USA.
We innovated from day one – bringing university degrees and pricing models to the floor. We also stood out in terms of risk appetite (very small), discipline and team spirit. We were even described as a sect because we always had lunch with each other!
Unchanging principles
In today’s screen-trading era we continue to be market makers in options, while also trading a wide range of other strategies and products. We still prioritize innovation, discipline, teamwork and risk aversion.
Despite a growing global network and over 450 employees worldwide, we are not complacent. We still consider ourselves to be relatively small and there is always a sense of urgency and a continuous desire to improve and expand.
Responding to competition
For instance, we are so much better than we were just two years ago, from the quality of our pricing and execution systems to risk management, HR, and financial reporting. But at the same time our competition has also grown in terms of people, knowledge and experience.
Our strategy is to pit multi-disciplinary teams against them, sharing our knowledge and combining experience and expertise. If we are to be the best, we must draw on the skills of everyone at IMC – working together to make it better.
Employee satisfaction
Very rarely do people decide to leave IMC. One reason is that IMC offers opportunities to change your area of work, or even the country you live in.
Thus, in every office around the globe, you will find people from almost every other IMC office. Such exchanges benefit the wider organization through the sharing of different skillsets and insights.

Many people regard this as valuable life experience, which we’re happy to provide. At the same time, it gives IMC the flexibility to send our resources to wherever they can add the most value.
Speak out
Another reason for our high retention rate is that IMC is regarded as a safe, friendly and challenging place to work.
And at IMC it’s not just safe to speak up, it’s compulsory! So, if someone has an interesting idea it will be acknowledged and acted on, whatever their role or experience.
