Social commitment
IMC Sunday School
IMC Sunday School started on the 2nd of August 2009. This program is organized together with the Hong Kong Boys and Girls Club Association (BGCA). Please also visit the corporate website of the BGCA.
Who is it for and what does the IMC Sunday School do?
This one-year program is organized for under-resourced children between the age of 11 and 15 in Hong Kong. From August 2009 to May 2010, the program will provide over 20 classroom workshops and outings covering the following topics: Liberal Studies (e.g. Environmental protection and Globalization), Astronomy, Journalism and Rocketry. English proficiency training is also embedded in every lesson to enhance the participants’ vocabulary and terminology for the related subjects in English.
I am fascinated by the creativity of the participants. I wish the students can keep up with their good work.
I find the IMC Sunday School classes interesting. The teachers have helped me find out clear and consistent goals for myself.
Why did IMC start the Sunday School?
This project is designed for both IMC Sunday School participants and IMC employees.
Benefits for IMC Sunday School participants:
- To help children from under-resourced neighborhoods to broaden their perspectives
- To gain self-confidence
- To identify and develop talents
- To provide a way to see cultural diversities via the volunteering of international staff from IMC
Benefits for IMC employees:
- To reinforce the corporate spirit of “Learn, Earn & Return”
- To encourage employee involvement in volunteer services
- To acquire a sense of connectedness to Hong Kong society
The IMC Sunday School is fully funded by IMC Hong Kong with the BGCA to provide professional support in the areas of organizing, planning, implementing and overseeing the program. All employees of IMC Hong Kong will take turn to become the volunteers for different Sunday classes and outings of the IMC Sunday School.
